The state militia carried regimental colors based on the Stars and Stripes, with the addition of "a large eagle, with the number of the regiment and the prescribed number of stars above". History įor nearly a century after statehood, Ohio had no legally authorized state flag. The flag of Nepal has similarly been turned into a rectangle, either by mistake or expediency, due to the unusual dimensions of the flag. On account of the flag's uncommon shape, foreign manufacturers have occasionally set the entire design against a white, rectangular field. Its shape, lack of text, and mirror symmetry allow it to be flown or hung in various orientations without affecting legibility. The flag has been officially defined as a " burgee" since 2002, even though burgees are typically used as maritime flags. According to vexillologist Whitney Smith, it may be loosely based upon cavalry flags of the Civil War and Spanish–American War. It is a rare example of a non- quadrilateral civil flag, another well-known example being the flag of Nepal. Ohio's flag is the only non-rectangular U.S. A rectangular Ohio flag flies in front of the Benetka Road Covered Bridge in Ashtabula County. In addition to resembling the letter O and a buckeye nut, the flag's annulus also represents "the original territory of Ohio" in the Northwest Territory. A typical 34-star Union guidon, carried by many Ohio cavalry units during the Civil War. The proportional dimensions of the flag and of its various parts shall be according to the official design on file in the office of the secretary of state. The "O" represents the "O" in "Ohio" and suggests the state's nickname, the buckeye state. The stars shall be grouped around a red disc superimposed upon a white circular "O." The thirteen stars grouped around the "O" represent the original states of the United States and the four stars added to the peak of the triangle symbolize that Ohio was the seventeenth state admitted to the union. The union of the flag shall be seventeen five-pointed stars, white in a blue triangular field that represents the state's hills and valleys, the base of which shall be the staff end or vertical edge of the flag, and the apex of which shall be the center of the middle red stripe. It shall have three red and two white horizontal stripes that represent the roads and waterways of the state. The flag of the state shall be burgee-shaped. The Ohio state flag's design is defined in the Ohio Revised Code, section 5.01: A scarlet-colored gubernatorial flag is based on the state seal.ĭesign An Ohio flag flies above Sawyer Point in Cincinnati. The Ohio flag has influenced a number of logos and municipal flags within the state. ![]() ![]() Ohio has adopted an official salute to the flag and the official folding procedure gives it 17 folds. One unsuccessful proposal had called for a design based on the state seal. Before that, for nearly a century after statehood, Ohio did not have a legally authorized state flag. The flag was designed in 1901 by John Eisenmann for the Pan-American Exposition and adopted in 1902. A prominent disc in the flag's triangular canton is suggestive of the state's name. Its red, white, and blue elements symbolize the state's natural features and order of admission into the Union. It is a triangular swallowtail flag, and is the only non-rectangular U.S. The Ohio Burgee is the official flag of the U.S. The chevron is azure containing a white and red "O" and 17 white stars. As of Thursday, Didi had lost roughly $14 billion in value since it listed. The company is now trading at $11.21 per share, 21% below its offer price. “The companies are likely buying time to ensure that they’ve done enough due diligence that is required in this new Data Security Law era,” says Michael Pang, managing director at consulting firm Protiviti.Īnother concern is investor sentiment, given how badly Beijing’s surprise actions have hurt Didi’s stock. The string of shelved listings may indicate that companies are putting off IPOs until they better understand Beijing’s new regulatory scheme, including the State Council’s Tuesday directive on “illegal securities activities,” which the body has yet to clarify. Soulgate cited “alternative financing options” as the reason for yanking its IPO. On the plus side, the making is fresh and the canvas, big and wonderful. The narrative style is also a bit confusing for the audience as overlapping scenes have been used to further the drama. Even the extra-marital affair may have been overlooked by some of the orthodox audience if that affair would’ve had a magical effect on Heer’s illness in the end but when that doesn’t happen, the audience is unable to stop itself from seeking reasons for the affair – and not finding any. Since the entire second half is about and around the extra-marital affair, it keeps nagging the audience which wants things explained in clear and logical terms. Also, the fact that Janardhan literally forcibly kisses Heer on her lips in Prague is a bit too much for the orthodox Indian audience to accept because she is a married woman and he is the hero of the drama. It is not as if Heer’s husband is bad or that he ill-treats her. The writer has not even attempted to give a reason for the extra-marital affair, which would be difficult for the orthodox and non-elitist audience to accept. However, the screenplay, penned by Imtiaz Ali, is of the kind which would appeal to the classes mainly. Imtiaz Ali and Muazzam Beg’s story about a young man’s rise to superstardom is quite different from the usual commercial fare because it deals with the love story of a married woman and her college friend, both of who have no qualms or regrets about the extra-marital affair. What happens thereafter? Does Heer return to India? Or does Jordan go back to Prague? Or do the two never meet? What about Jordan’s rise to fame? What about Heer’s illness? Back in India, Janardhan is a rockstar known by the name of Jordan. Heer’s mental condition once again deteriorates and she is hospitalised. Janardhan, who has, by now, mesmerised the people of Prague with his songs, is arrested for trespassing on Heer’s property. Then, one day, Heer’s husband and in-laws learn of the affair. Heer’s good-natured husband and in-laws are unaware of Heer’s passionate encounters with Janardhan as they only see him as a friend who has taken Heer out of depression. Sparks fly between them and Janardhan and Heer have a wild and lustful time together. Once there, he meets Heer who is battling depression. Suddenly, one day, Janardhan gets an opportunity to go to Prague with a few other singers. Janardhan’s work is now being looked after by his sympathiser, Khatana. A classical singer, Ustad Jameel Khan (Shammi Kapoor), hears him singing one day and prompts Dhingra (Piyush Mishra), the owner of a music company, to sign him as he foresees a great future for him. He tides over the difficult times by staying in a dargah and singing hymns in praise of Allah. ![]() Here, Janardhan is thrown out of his home by his brother for a robbery he hasn’t committed. After marriage, Heer goes off to Prague with her husband. ![]() Just before marriage, Heer realises, she loves Janardhan but doesn’t have the courage to tell this to her parents or even openly to Janardhan. Like a loyal friend, Janardhan goes with Heer and helps with the wedding preparations. The friendship grows when Heer invites him to Kashmir for her marriage. Heer’s initial irritation and arrogance give way to fondness and friendship when she realises, he is harmless. How can he have a heartbreak? He makes advances towards Heer Kaul (Nargis Fakhri), a rich and arrogant girl who studies in his college. Janardhan, whose life is almost a bed of roses, is perplexed. Khatana (Kumud Mishra), who is, in a way, his sympathiser, tells him that all great musicians in the world have one thing in common – they have had a big tragedy in their lives, they’ve had heartbreaks. His friends poke fun at his dreams of becoming a rockstar. Janardhan Jakhar ( Ranbir Kapoor) is a simple boy from Delhi whose idol is rockstar Jim Morrison. and Eros International’s Rockstar (UA) is the story of a simple guy who dreams of becoming a famous musician. ![]() Moving at a fairly relaxed pace, the gameplay nevertheless involves a lot of weaving around the screen with bullets, missiles or just enemy craft coming at you from multiple directions and at differing speeds. There’s a good range of explosions, whirling, rockets firing, beeps and voiced soundbites for the likes of “Weapon Upgrade”, “Health Restored” and commentary on your chain of kills ranging from “Nice” to “God-Like”. Synth music again backs the onscreen action, providing a good combination of adventurous tracks and is enhanced by the punchy sound effects. There are some (admittedly rare) moments where performance dips but overall things run smoothly and the stages could be slotted into the other game without seeming out of place. Overall there’s a bit less scenic variety than in Reloaded and less flair, whether that’s a fleeing speedboat looking a bit simple compared to a fleeing buggy or relatively calm water compared to choppy seas. A variety of trees, rocks, seas, desert and factory-like areas feature in the stages, although some end up looking quite similar. The 3D graphics provide a good amount of detail and depth to the stages, while keeping the action easy to follow - although sometimes it can be difficult to tell if that missile that's circling around the screen is from an enemy or if it's one of your own. It had better bosses, too, as with a couple of exceptions, Sky Force Anniversary’s are not as memorable.īut though Sky Force Anniversary offers a bit less, it still provides enjoyable shooting action, packaged up in the same audio-visual style. ![]() Reloaded featured thirteen (and three bonus) levels compared to the nine offered here and had a larger variety of enemy types to deal with. You do have the same upgrade options, however, allowing you to add permanent additions like missiles, side-cannons and a magnet (to attract stars) to your craft as well as the ability for the limited use items: shields, bombs and powerful laser blasts. Similarly, technicians who could provide buffs to your ship are absent in this instalment. If this sounds familiar, then that’s because the follow-up, Sky Force Reloaded has already been released on Switch and consequently while Sky Force Anniversary offers similar shooting thrills to Reloaded, it feels like a step down in some areas.įor starters, you have just the one ship, whereas Reloaded had multiple options (assuming you collected the parts). Now it comes to Switch, providing its blend of fun and grinding as you blast through a number of levels, replaying them many times over to meet the requirements to earn medals and collect stars (the in-game currency) to purchase upgrades for your ship. The Sky Force series began on mobile before moving on to more traditional games machines, with Sky Force Anniversary arriving on a number of systems (including the Wii U) not so long ago. |
